Important Formulas of Boats and Streams
1. Boat going Downstream:
If boat is going in the direction of water flow then it is called boat going downstream.2. Boat going Upstream:
If boat is going opposite to the direction of water flow then it is called boat going upstream.3. Speed Downstream: If the speed of a boat in still water is u km/hr and the speed of the stream is v km/hr, then:
Speed downstream = (u + v) km/hr.
Means the speed of stream and of boat will be added.4. Speed Upstream: If the speed of a boat in still water is u km/hr and the speed of the stream is v km/hr, then:
Speed upstream = (u – v) km/hr.5. If the speed downstream of boat is a km/hr and the speed upstream of boat is b km/hr, then
Speed in still water =1/2 (a+b)km/hrSpeed of stream =1/2 (a−b)km/hr
